Connectors and browser helpers
Checked 12 October 2026. Each skill on Trilly says what it can do beyond the chat under "What you get". You choose: let your AI use your apps and do the clicking, or get a copy-ready version to paste yourself. What connected apps and browser helpers are
Connected apps. ChatGPT connects to apps such as Google Drive, Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Canva and Figma. Open Settings, then Plugins, pick the app and sign in to it. Which apps you see depends on your plan and country. Keep each app on Always ask for anything that changes things.
Browser helper. ChatGPT Work's browser works on paid plans except Free and Go, in the countries ChatGPT supports: its cloud browser, the desktop app, or the ChatGPT extension for Chrome and Edge. Set sites to Always ask. To attach files from your computer, use the extension with Allow access to file URLs turned on. ChatGPT's old agent mode and Atlas are retired.
On Free, Go, Plus or Pro
OpenAI's help centre lists skill uploads for Business, Enterprise, Healthcare and Edu only. On a personal plan you have two good options:
- The ChatGPT desktop app or Codex. OpenAI says standalone skills work in the ChatGPT desktop app, Codex's command-line tool and its editor extension. Use the plugin version below, or put the skill folder where Codex looks: see the Codex guide.
- A Project version, if the skill's maker made one (steps below).
The ChatGPT and Codex plugin (desktop and workspace users)
The skill's Add to my AI page also offers a ChatGPT and Codex plugin download. It unzips to a folder called trilly-skill-name, which is a small plugin marketplace on your computer.
- Unzip it somewhere it can stay, such as your Documents folder.
- In a terminal, run
codex plugin marketplace addfollowed by the path to that folder. This step needs OpenAI's Codex command-line tool. - Restart the ChatGPT desktop app.
- In Work or Codex in the desktop app, open the Plugins Directory, choose the
trilly-skill-namemarketplace and add the plugin. In Codex's command-line tool, type/pluginsinstead. - Start a new chat, then ask as normal.
OpenAI says plugins from a marketplace on your computer don't work on every surface, so use the desktop app or Codex for this. See OpenAI's guide to adding and using plugins.
Paste a Project version
- On the skill's Add to my AI page, choose the Project version.
- In ChatGPT, create a new project. Open the project's menu, then Project settings.
- Paste the Project version into the project's instructions.
- If the page lists extra files, upload them to the project.
- Chat inside that project whenever you want the skill's help.
A pasted copy is a snapshot. It won't update when the maker improves the skill, and Trilly can't count your use in the skill's public numbers. Any scripts in the skill won't run either.
Custom GPTs are retiring
OpenAI is retiring custom GPTs on 11 December 2026. FedRAMP workspaces, and Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral, have until 11 February 2027. Personal accounts (Free, Go, Plus and Pro) already can't create new GPTs. OpenAI's plan is to move a GPT's instructions into a skill, so skills are the way to go.
For workspace admins
Enterprise and Edu owners find separate switches under Permissions & roles: Enable skills, Enable skill uploading, sharing, Publish to workspace, and Install for others. Turning on skills doesn't turn on uploading. Uploaded skills are scanned and may be marked Needs Review or Blocked.
If a skill doesn't work
- Temporary chats: personalised temporary chats (the default) use your plugins, memories and custom instructions; unpersonalised ones don't. Turn personalisation back on, or use a normal chat.
- Check the upload wasn't held. Look for Needs Review or Blocked on the Skills tab.
- Call it by name. Type @ and the skill's name.
Linking ChatGPT to Trilly
ChatGPT can connect to apps built on MCP, the open standard the Trilly connector uses. On Business, Enterprise and Edu, custom apps that can take actions are a beta feature, and an admin may need to allow them. On Pro, developer mode only allows read and fetch actions, so adding skills through a link won't work there. If you have it, add an app with the address https://trilly.io/api/mcp and sign in to Trilly when asked. The steps for any app are at Link your AI.
