What a passkey is

A passkey is a way to log in that's saved on your phone, computer or password manager. You open it the way you unlock your device: with your fingerprint, face or PIN. Those stay on your device, and Trilly never sees them.

There's nothing to remember, and nothing anyone can trick you into typing. A passkey only works on Trilly's own site, so a fake page can't use it.

You don't have to use one. Your other ways to log in keep working.

Add a passkey

  1. Log in on the phone or computer you want to use.
  2. Open Password and security and find Passkeys.
  3. Give it a name if you like, such as "My phone". Type your password if you have one. If two-step login is on, type a code as well.
  4. Press Add a passkey, then use your fingerprint, face or PIN when your device asks.

We email you whenever a passkey is added, so you'd know if it wasn't you.

Use it to log in

  1. On the log in page, press Log in with a passkey.
  2. Use your fingerprint, face or PIN.

You won't need a code from your authenticator app as well. A passkey already counts as both steps of two-step login.

On a computer without your passkey? Your browser can use your phone instead. Choose the option for a phone or another device, and it shows a square code. Scan that with your phone's camera and unlock your phone. Bluetooth needs to be on for both.

Can't see the button? Your browser can't use passkeys. Update it, or log in another way.

If you lose your phone or computer

You're not locked out, and nobody can use your passkey without unlocking your device.

  1. On the log in page, log in with your password, or press Email me a code instead. If two-step login is on, you'll need a code from your app or a backup code as well.
  2. Open Password and security, find the lost passkey under Passkeys, and press Change or remove.
  3. Remove it. If you have a password, you'll be asked for it, so reset it first if you've forgotten it. If the passkey is your only way to log in, the page asks you to add a password first.
  4. Add a new passkey on your new phone or computer.

Removing a passkey also logs you out on your other devices, so anyone still logged in on the lost one is logged out too.

If the list says saved in your password manager, it also works on your other devices that use it. Remove it only if someone else could unlock the lost device.

If you can't get in at all

If two-step login is on and you've lost your phone, your backup codes and your passkey, email support@trilly.io from the address on your account.

That email alone isn't enough, because someone else could be in your mailbox. We'll check it's you another way, usually on a call.

Two-step login then turns off after 24 hours. We tell you first, by email and in Trilly, so you can stop it if it wasn't you. Turn it back on once you're in.
