Example, shortened, from this skill's page. Someone asks their AI: Today is Wed Oct 21, 2026. Juniper Coffee, Brooklyn NY. Square's connected: check the last 4… Staff Roster Builder answers: Covered on paper, with one extra hour owed (Devon, Saturday). Week cost: $1,395.00. The Saturday 7-11am question waits on Square. 9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 21 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 21 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.0 on 21 October 2026. Version 1.0.2 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a job using connected apps What it tested: In New York restaurants (a cafe counts), an employee whose spread of hours (start to end of the workday, breaks and gaps included) is more than 10 gets one extra hour at the basic minimum hourly rate, whatever their pay rate (New York State Department of Labor, United States) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a tricky case 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: Statutory Sick Pay is paid from the first full day of sickness, with no waiting days and no lower earnings limit, since 6 April 2026 (GOV.UK, United Kingdom) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

You ask

Today is Wed Oct 21, 2026. Juniper Coffee, Brooklyn NY. Square's connected: check the last 4 weeks of sales by hour and tell me if Sat 7-11am needs a 2nd person. Next week (Mon Oct 26 to Sun Nov 1): Maria (full-time, $21/hr): Mon-Fri 7am-3:30pm, 30-min unpaid lunch at noon Devon (part-time, $19/hr): Sat 6-10am and 3-7pm; Sun 7am-3:30pm, 30-min unpaid lunch at noon Ana (part-time, $18/hr): Tue & Thu 3-7pm, Sat 10am-3pm Check it, cost it, and put it in Google Sheets.

Without the skill

I can't give you the Saturday answer or the finished Sheet yet, because the Square and Sheets steps haven't run. Here's what I've worked out so far and what's next.

Square (to run first)

  • I would pull sales for the last four Saturdays (September 26, October 3, October 10 and October 17, 2026), by hour from 7 to 11am, in America/New_York time.
  • I'd read net sales and transaction count per hour, then average them.
  • Sat 7-11am as rostered has one person at a time: Devon until 10, then Ana. I'd recommend a second person only for hours where average transactions are high enough that one person can't keep up. I'll give you that threshold with the numbers.

Roster check and cost (paid hours, no overtime)

Person Paid hours Cost
Maria 40 (5 × 8) $840
Devon 24 (Sat 8, Sun 8, plus Sat split) → 16 $304
Ana 13 $234
Total 69 $1,378

Devon's hours are Sat 8 (4 + 4) and Sun 8, so 16 in total.

Issues to look at

  1. Notice: October 26 is only 5 days away, and your standard is 7 days. The roster is already late, so I'd tell staff today.
  2. Split shift: Devon works Saturday 6-10am and 3-7pm, a 13-hour spread. New York's hospitality wage order may require an extra hour of pay for a spread over 10 hours. I haven't included it in the cost. Please confirm with your payroll provider or the NY Department of Labor.
  3. Saturday handover: Devon leaves at 10 and Ana starts at 10, so there's no overlap during the usual busy stretch. Ana is also alone from 10 to 3.
  4. Lunch gaps: Maria and Devon each take a 30-minute unpaid lunch at noon, and nobody else is in then, except Tuesday and Thursday when Ana isn't yet in. Please confirm that closing for lunch is okay or that someone covers.
  5. Opening hours: I don't know your hours, so I can't tell whether Mon, Wed and Fri after 3:30pm, or Sunday after 3:30pm, are uncovered.

With the skill

STAFF ROSTER

Covered on paper, with one extra hour owed (Devon, Saturday). Week cost: $1,395.00. The Saturday 7-11am question waits on Square.

Square (not read yet): I would pull sales by hour for the last four Saturdays (September 26 to October 17), plus the weekday average as a baseline. I'd compare 7-11am transactions per hour with what one person can handle. Say go and I'll read it. Until then, Saturday 7-10am has only Devon, and Ana joins at 10.

Person Day Start to finish Break Hours
Maria Mon-Fri 7 am to 3:30 pm 30 min 40
Devon Sat 6 to 10 am, 3 to 7 pm 5 hours off 8
Devon Sun 7 am to 3:30 pm 30 min 8
Ana Tue, Thu 3 to 7 pm none 8
Ana Sat 10 am to 3 pm none 5
  • Devon, spread of hours: Saturday runs 6 am to 7 pm, a 13-hour spread. In a New York restaurant or cafe, a spread over 10 earns one extra hour at the basic minimum rate ($17.00 in NYC), whatever his $19 rate (NYS Department of Labor, 12 NYCRR 146-1.6). Fix: have Ana cover 3-7pm Saturday, or shorten Devon's gap.
  • Overtime: none. Maria has 40 hours, Devon 16 and Ana 13 in the Monday-start pay week.
  • Minimum wage: all rates are above $17.00.
  • Ana's shifts: she has no break because her shifts are 5 hours or less. Check any NY meal-break rule with the NYS Department of Labor.
Person Hours Rate and rule Cost
Maria 40 $21.00 $840.00
Devon 16 $19.00 $304.00
Devon 1 $17.00 spread of hours $17.00
Ana 13 $18.00 $234.00
Total $1,395.00

This is general information, not legal advice. The NYS Department of Labor decides.

Google Sheet (needs your yes): I would create "Juniper Coffee roster Oct 26" with tabs Week, Rates, Cost, Labour cost and Approvals, filled with the tables above. Reply "yes" to create it.

Dates:

  • Today, Wed Oct 21: send the roster. It's under 7 days before Monday, so it's already late.
  • Mon Oct 26: Tess builds the Nov 2-8 roster.

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Give it who can work, the hours you need covered and each person's rate. It builds next week's roster, then checks every shift: minimum shift lengths, breaks and rest between shifts, overtime, weekend and public holiday rates, and young workers' hours, using the rules where your business is. Every shift is costed at the rate that applies, with where that rate comes from.

It also checks overtime and holiday pay on a timesheet and shows any shortfall. It writes the staff message and any sign-offs a shift needs, with a tracker and the dates that follow.

It can read sales by hour from Square, or sales and wages from Xero, to size the shifts, and make the roster as a new Google Sheet or file after you say yes. It never runs payroll, pays anyone or sends messages, and it gives general information, not legal advice.

You choose: it reads your connected apps and, where your AI app's connection can make changes, changes things only in Google Sheets, Excel and Google Drive, after your yes each time, or you paste things in and get copy-ready text, or step-by-step help.

Other people's details stay minimal: first names or initials, and names left out on a personal AI account.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your payments app, your accounting software, your spreadsheets or your cloud files to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Remembers you. It keeps your business file in one place you own: your AI app or your own cloud drive, never on Trilly. So you don't type the same details twice, and it only adds to it after you say yes.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.

  • Build next week's roster: open 7 am to 3 pm, 2 on weekends, staff Sam, Lee and Ari. Check breaks and minimum shifts.

To check it's working, the answer should start with "STAFF ROSTER".
