Example, shortened, from this skill's page. Someone asks their AI: I'm in Leeds and help my granddaughter Mila with maths over video. She's in Year 7 at a school… Maths 7 to 10 (Victorian Curriculum) answers: This skill follows the Victorian Curriculum and Australian rules, which apply to Mila's school in Geelong even though you're in the United Kingdom.

See the difference. Same question, two answers.

Show the answer

9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 27 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 27 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

This result is for version 1.0.1's skill files as you add them to Claude. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Task 2 of 3: a tricky case What it tested: Since 2023 NAPLAN results are reported in four proficiency levels (Exceeding, Strong, Developing, Needs additional support), not bands, and the 2008 to 2022 band reports are not compared directly with them (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, Australia) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: In Victorian government schools Term 4 2026 ends on Friday 18 December 2026 and students start Term 1 2027 on Thursday 28 January 2027, so practice and the review never fall in the holidays (the Victorian Government) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

Trilly ran this request on an AI and picked this pair: one example, shortened. The score is from Trilly's test.

You ask

I'm in Leeds and help my granddaughter Mila with maths over video. She's in Year 7 at a school in Geelong. Her NAPLAN numeracy says 'Developing'. Is that a band 5? Her cousin got band 6 in Year 7 back in 2022, so is she behind him? When is her next one? Her study file says: Term 3 integers test 11/20, lost marks subtracting negatives. Write a short note about it to her mum Jess, and sign it Nana Pat for this one. Today is 16 October 2026.

Without the skill

Your questions

  • Is "Developing" a band 5? No. Since 2023 NAPLAN has used four proficiency levels instead of bands 1 to 10: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support. "Developing" means Mila is working towards the expected level but isn't quite there yet.
  • Is she behind her cousin? Not in any way you can measure. His band 6 in 2022 was on the old scale, and the 2023 change means the results can't be compared directly.
  • When is her next NAPLAN? Students sit it in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, so Mila's next one is Year 9, in March 2029. Please check the exact dates with her school.

You mentioned two different dates for today. I've used 27 October 2026, so the review falls on Tuesday 10 November 2026.

Note to Jess

Subject: Mila's maths

Hi Jess,

I've been looking at Mila's maths. Her NAPLAN numeracy came back as "Developing", which just means she's working towards the expected level for Year 7. It isn't a worry, and it's a good guide to what we can practise together.

Her Term 3 integers test was 11/20, and most of the lost marks came from subtracting negatives. That is a very common sticking point, and it responds well to a little regular practice.

Here's our plan:

  • We'll meet over video on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 pm for 20 minutes.
  • Each pattern gets 3 practice questions, such as 5 − (−3), so she can spot the rule.
  • We'll review on Tuesday 10 November 2026, 14 days from now, to see how she's getting on.

It would help if she could keep her working on paper so we can see where any slips happen. I'll let you know how she gets on.

Lots of love, Nana Pat

MATHS PROGRESS

This skill follows the Victorian Curriculum and Australian rules, which apply to Mila's school in Geelong even though you're in the United Kingdom.

Since 2023 NAPLAN has reported four proficiency levels (Exceeding, Strong, Developing, Needs additional support), not bands, so Developing isn't a band and isn't compared directly with a 2008 to 2022 band (her cousin's band 6). So no, Mila isn't "behind" him. The two can't be compared.

What Developing means (ACARA): the result shows she is working towards expectations at the time of testing. It is one test on one day. Her study file adds more: 11/20 on the Term 3 integers test, with marks lost subtracting negatives.

Her next NAPLAN: she sits it in Year 9, in the 15 to 27 March 2028 window.

The pattern: subtracting negatives. Its root is Level 7 adding and subtracting integers (VC2M7N08). Without her working I can't say which line goes wrong, so a few of her worked questions would help. I can set 3 practice questions, with solutions held back until she's tried them.

Note to Jess:

Subject: Mila's maths

Hi Jess,

Mila's NAPLAN numeracy came back as "Developing", which means she is working towards the expected level. It isn't a band, and it can't be compared with older band results. It's one test on one day. Her integers test was 11/20, and the marks she lost were mostly from subtracting negatives. We're practising that over video, and her next NAPLAN is in March 2028, in Year 9.

Love, Nana Pat

Add Mila's NAPLAN numeracy result (Developing) and the next NAPLAN window (15 to 27 March 2028) to your study file?

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Share a maths test from Year 7, 8, 9 or 10. It marks every question from the working. It shows which part of the Victorian Curriculum Mathematics Version 2.0 each question tests, by its code and the level's achievement standard. Then it finds the pattern behind the lost marks, not just the wrong answers.

You get practice aimed at that pattern. The worked solutions stay back until the student has tried. Practice and review dates fit the school term. A progress record builds test by test in your study file, and parents get a short update in plain words. It also explains NAPLAN levels and school report scores.

It never does work that counts towards a school grade. It explains the method on a different example instead. If Google Drive is connected, it reads the test you pick and can save the progress file as a new file. If Google Calendar is connected, it can add the practice sessions. It asks first every time. It uses the student's first name only, and keeps surnames, schools and student numbers out of every file.

You choose: it reads your connected apps and, where your AI app's connection can make changes, changes things only in Google Drive and Google Calendar, after your yes each time, or you paste things in and get copy-ready text, or step-by-step help.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your cloud files or your calendar to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Remembers you. It keeps your study file in one place you own: your AI app or your own cloud drive, never on Trilly. So you don't type the same details twice, and it only adds to it after you say yes.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.

Try asking

Once it's added, ask your AI something like this. Not sure it loaded? Is my skill working?

  • What is my child expected to know in Year 8 maths in Victoria?

To check it's working, the answer should start with "MATHS PROGRESS".

  • mark my year 9 maths test victorian curriculum

  • maths practice for the topics my child got wrong
