9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 21 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 21 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.1 on 21 October 2026. Version 1.0.3 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a job using connected apps What it tested: For a VET Student Loan, a student without a Year 12 certificate, IB Diploma or AQF level 4 or higher qualification delivered in English needs ACSF Exit Level 3 in both reading and numeracy on an approved tool; a lower-level VET qualification isn't evidence (DEWR) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a tricky case What it tested: A VET Student Loan application (eCAF) can be made only once 2 full business days have passed since enrolment and must be made on or before the census day, and the loan covers only census days after it's submitted (VET Student Loans Rules 2016 section 10; DEWR) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: A student with a USI exemption can't get a VET Student Loan, because the loan application must include the student's USI and Commonwealth financial assistance can't be exempted (Student Identifiers Registrar; VET Student Loans Act 2016 section 17) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

Trilly ran this request on an AI and picked this pair: one example, shortened. The score is from Trilly's test.

You ask

I'm in Auckland, doing student services for Tasman Institute, an RTO in Brisbane. Kai enrolled yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 21 October 2026, in our Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, which is VET Student Loan approved. Unit 1's census day is Friday 23 October. He wants the loan to cover unit 1 too. Can he do his eCAF tonight? If not, I could fill the eCAF in for him today so it beats the census. Give me the dates as a checklist I can paste. Today is 22 October 2026.

Without the skill

Straight answers

  • Can Kai complete his eCAF tonight? Yes, provided he's eligible and has his details ready. Tonight (22 October 2026) is before the census day, Friday 23 October 2026.
  • Can you fill it in for him? No. The eCAF is the student's own declaration and loan request, so he must complete and submit it himself. You can guide him, but you shouldn't enter it or submit it for him.

One note: my system date says 21 October, but your message says today is 22 October. I've used 22 October, as Kai enrolled on 21 October.

Time zone: Census day runs on Brisbane time, which is 3 hours behind Auckland. Brisbane's 11:59 pm on 23 October is 2:59 am on 24 October in Auckland, but don't rely on that margin.

Checklist to paste

  • [ ] 22 October 2026: Message Kai today with the eCAF link and the census date, 23 October 2026.
  • [ ] 22 October 2026: Confirm his eligibility (citizenship or visa status; NZ citizens have extra residency conditions) and that he has his USI and ID documents ready.
  • [ ] 22 October 2026 (tonight): Kai completes and submits his eCAF himself.
  • [ ] 23 October 2026 (morning, Auckland time): Check that the eCAF shows as submitted. Don't wait the usual 3 days to chase; contact him the same day if it isn't.
  • [ ] 23 October 2026: Census day for unit 1, with the eCAF submitted before it ends (Brisbane time).
  • [ ] If missed: Tell Kai that unit 1 is then payable upfront or by another arrangement, and that the loan can only apply to later units.

INTAKE CHECKS

The RTO is in Brisbane, so Australian rules apply even though you work from Auckland.

Kai can't do his eCAF tonight, and you can't fill it in for him. Enrolment was Wednesday 21 October. The eCAF can only be submitted after 2 full business days have passed: Thursday 22 and Friday 23 October. The earliest day is Monday 26 October. Unit 1's census day (Friday 23 October) falls inside that waiting period, so the loan can't cover unit 1. Completing any part of the eCAF for a student is a civil penalty for the provider (120 penalty units), so please don't. If you gave me any correction to the enrolment date, I'd recheck, but as stated this stands.

The loan covers only census days after the eCAF is submitted. Kai could still get a loan for later units. If he withdraws from unit 1 on or before Friday 23 October, he owes no loan debt for it and gets a refund of any fees paid. Your RTO must settle unit 1 fees another way; this is general information, not financial advice. If Kai is worried about money, the National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007) is free.

Student USI Loan eligibility Academic evidence Missing and by when
Kai Not stated Citizenship or visa not stated Not stated Confirm all three; eCAF from Monday 26 October, before 11:59 pm AEST on the next census day

Please tell me Kai's citizenship or visa, USI verification status, academic evidence (Year 12, level 4+ or LLN result), and unit 2's census day.

Checklist to paste

  • [ ] Thu 22 Oct 2026: confirm Kai's citizenship evidence sighted and USI verified with the Registrar
  • [ ] Thu 22 Oct: confirm pre-training review and fee information were given
  • [ ] Thu 22 Oct: tell Kai unit 1 can't be covered and explain his withdrawal option
  • [ ] Fri 23 Oct: unit 1 census day
  • [ ] Mon 26 Oct: Kai's earliest eCAF day (he completes it himself)
  • [ ] Tue 27 Oct (chase, 3 working days from today): missing items due
  • [ ] eCAF deadline: 11:59 pm AEST on or before unit 2's census day (date needed)
  • [ ] Within 28 days of each census day: Commonwealth Assistance Notice to Kai

  • Spreadsheets (for example Excel or Google Sheets): Read the enrolment export so every student is checked without retyping. Reads: The enrolment export you name, only the columns the checks need Doesn't create or change anything. Without it: You paste the rows or uploads the export; changes come back as rows to paste.
  • Cloud files (for example SharePoint, OneDrive or Google Drive): Read the export from the folder you name, and save the intake tracker there. Reads: The export and tracker files in the folder you name, and nothing else Creates: The intake tracker as a new .xlsx file in the SharePoint or Google Drive folder you name, only after a yes. Never overwrites, shares or deletes a file. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: The tracker comes back as an .xlsx file if the app can make files, or as a copy-ready table.
  • Email (for example Outlook; Gmail only reads): Save emails to students about missing items as Outlook drafts, and read a student's reply you pick. Reads: A student's reply you pick from a search by first name or subject Creates: Emails to students as Outlook drafts, only after a yes and where the organisation's admin allows it. Never sends. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each email is written in the chat for you to send. Gmail stays read-only.
  • Calendar (for example Outlook Calendar or Google Calendar): Book eCAF deadlines, census days, chase dates and notice dates in your own calendar. Reads: Intake dates already on the calendar you name Creates: One event for each eCAF deadline, census day, chase date and notice date in your own calendar, only after a yes, with no invitees. Outlook only where the organisation's admin allows it. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each date is given as Title, Date and Time lines to add by hand, or a calendar file (.ics) if the app can make files.
Where your information goes
  • Student codes or first names, course, enrolment and census dates, citizenship type, qualification evidence type, LLN result and USI status: Stays in the chat; the tracker goes to your own SharePoint or Google Drive folder after a yes Codes or first names only; 'verified' or 'sighted' with the document type and date, never a USI, tax file number, passport, visa or Medicare number. With rules and templates only, no student details go in.
  • Emails to students about missing items: Outlook drafts after a yes, or text in the chat; you send them Each email names only that student's missing items and the due date.
  • eCAF, census, chase and notice dates: Your own calendar after a yes Titles carry the task and the student code; notes carry the rule and who acts.

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Give it your enrolment export or a list of students by code. For each one it checks the USI is verified, the pre-training review and fee information are on file, and, for a VET Student Loan, citizenship or residency, academic suitability (Year 12, a Certificate IV or higher taught in English, or an approved reading and numeracy test) and the eCAF dates against the census day. It checks Skills First or Smart and Skilled eligibility from the current state rules.

It drafts an email to each student for what's missing, books the eCAF, census and chase dates, and keeps an intake tracker until every record is complete and ready for audit. Staff check identity and students complete their own eCAF and test: it never does either, submits nothing and sends nothing. It gives general information, not financial or legal advice.

It asks first what your RTO's AI policy lets you share. Use student codes or first names, and leave names out on a personal AI account. If Excel, SharePoint, Google Drive, Outlook or your calendar is connected, it can read the export, save the tracker, save emails as Outlook drafts and add dates, and it asks first.

You choose: it reads your connected apps and, where your AI app's connection can make changes, changes things only in SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Outlook, Outlook Calendar and Google Calendar, after your yes each time, or you paste things in and get copy-ready text, or step-by-step help.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your spreadsheets, your cloud files, your email or your calendar to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Remembers you. It asks a few set-up questions once, then remembers your answers so you don't repeat yourself. You can change them any time.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.
