Example, shortened, from this skill's page. Someone asks their AI: Outlook and Google Calendar are connected. I'm primary supervisor for six PhD students at… Research Students' Milestones and Supervision Record answers: I can't write this up as approved yet. Four months is over 60 calendar days. Requested: Interruption, 4 January to 3 May…; Routed: Visa compliance, 22 October 2026; Outcome: Pending.

See the difference. Same question, two answers.

Show the answer

9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 22 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 22 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.0 on 22 October 2026. Version 1.0.2 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a job using connected apps What it tested: A Student sponsor may keep sponsoring a student who defers after arrival for up to 60 calendar days, vacations not counted; beyond 60 it withdraws sponsorship and reports within 10 working days of agreeing (UK Visas and Immigration, United Kingdom) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a hand-off to a browser helper What it tested: NSF GRFP Medical Leave is approved by the institution, then requested in the GRFP Online Module; at most three months are paid in total across the Tenure years, and unpaid months are deferred (NSF GRFP Administrative Guide) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: An RTP Stipend recipient who has completed 12 months of study on the stipend gets at least 20 weeks of paid parental leave, and the period of support is extended by that leave (Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines 2025, Department of Education) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

The whole example

Trilly ran this request on an AI and picked this pair: one example, shortened. The score is from Trilly's test.

You ask

Outlook and Google Calendar are connected. I'm primary supervisor for six PhD students at Northgate University. Wei (Student visa, 2nd year, full time) asked yesterday to interrupt for four months from Monday 4 January 2027 for a family matter back home. I'm happy to agree. Update her record, move her annual progress review (due 15 March 2027), book a catch-up for when she's back, and draft her a short email saying it's approved. Use our lab's green #2E7D32 for the record headings instead of the university purple. Today is 22 October 2026.

Without the skill

I haven't touched your calendar or email yet. Three things first:

  • Colour: your university profile locks the colours, so the headings stay Northgate purple (#5B2A86), not lab green.
  • Visa: Wei is on a Student visa, so an interruption usually has to go through the university's formal process and be reported to the visa compliance team. I've worded the email as your agreement, with that step still to come.
  • Return date: four months from 4 January 2027 is 4 May 2027, because Monday 3 May is a bank holiday.

Wei: updated record

Annual progress review Was due 15 March 2027; moving to after return (proposed date below)
Fortnightly meetings Paused during interruption; resume on return
Return catch-up Proposed week of 4 May 2027
Reminder 6 (I've assumed weeks) before the new review date
Progress form No system recorded

Calendar actions (waiting for your OK)

  1. Search for the "Wei annual progress review" event on 15 March 2027, then move it to a date you choose, probably mid-June 2027, once I've checked your availability.
  2. Check your free time on 4–7 May 2027, then create a 45-minute "Wei: return catch-up" hold.
  3. Add a reminder 6 weeks before the new review date.

Which review date and catch-up time would you like?

Email draft

To: Wei Subject: Your interruption of studies from 4 January 2027

Dear Wei,

Thank you for letting me know about your family situation. I'm sorry you have to deal with this, and I'm happy to agree to your interruption from Monday 4 January 2027 for four months, returning on 4 May 2027.

SUPERVISION RECORD

I can't write this up as approved yet. Four months is over 60 calendar days. Under UKVI's sponsor guidance (version 10/2026), unless the university decides exceptional circumstances apply, it must withdraw Wei's sponsorship and report within 10 working days of agreeing. Her permission would normally be cancelled, and she'd need a new CAS and visa to return. Whether it applies is the university's decision, not yours or mine. Please route it to visa compliance before agreeing anything. This is general information, not legal advice. I won't advise Wei on her visa.

Draft Outlook email, for your yes

Subject: Your request for an interruption

Hi Wei, thanks for letting me know. Before anything is agreed, I've passed the dates to our visa compliance team, because a break can affect your visa. They'll be in touch, and we'll confirm the plan once they have. Your milestones will move once it's approved.

Colours: the record headings stay in university purple. That's set by Northgate University and locked. Your Trilly admin can change it.

Next

  • You: say yes to the Outlook draft, then send it.
  • You: contact visa compliance today, Thursday 22 October 2026.
  • Visa compliance: respond. Reporting is due within 10 working days of agreement.
  • Me: once there's an outcome, update the record and book the events.

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Keep one record for each of your research students, year after year. It dates every milestone from the start date and your degree rules, sets reminders six weeks ahead, writes up each supervision meeting from your notes with agreed actions and owners, and fills the supervisor's section of progress and milestone forms.

Before you agree to leave, an interruption, part-time study or an extension, it checks the funder's and the visa rules where your institution is, says what each one means for the student, and routes the request to the right office first. Records hold dates and leave types, never reasons or health details.

It never writes or edits a thesis, never decides a milestone or a leave request, and never submits: you check and press Submit. It asks first what your institution's AI policy lets you put in; with rules and templates only, no student details go in. General information, not legal or visa advice.

If Google Drive, OneDrive, Outlook or Google Calendar is connected, it reads the files you name, books milestones and meetings in your own calendar and saves summaries as Outlook drafts, each only after you say yes.

You choose: your browser helper fills it in on the site and you check it and press the final button, or you get a copy-ready sheet, or step-by-step help.

Other people's details stay minimal: first names or initials, and names left out on a personal AI account.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your cloud files, your calendar or your email to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Does it for you. You choose: if you use a browser helper such as Claude in Chrome, ChatGPT Work or Comet, it can do the clicking for you on the website it names, one page at a time, or you get a copy-ready version to paste in yourself. With the browser helper, you check every answer and press Submit yourself. It never types your passwords or card numbers.

  • Remembers you. It asks a few set-up questions once, then remembers your answers so you don't repeat yourself. You can change them any time.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.

How each part works

Works with your apps.

  • Email (for example Outlook; Gmail only reads): read a student's email you pick, and save meeting summaries and notes to students as Outlook drafts. It asks you before it creates or changes anything.

Once it's added, ask your AI something like this. Not sure it loaded? Is my skill working?

  • set up a phd milestone tracker for my six students

To check it's working, the answer should start with "SUPERVISION RECORD".

  • my international phd student wants to interrupt for four months

  • write up today's supervision meeting with agreed actions
