9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 21 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 21 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.0 on 21 October 2026. Version 1.0.2 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a hand-off to a browser helper What it tested: Under the NIH 2024 Public Access Policy, manuscripts accepted on July 1, 2025 or later go to PubMed Central on acceptance and must be public with no embargo on the official date of publication (NIH) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: UKRI's open access policy needs research articles submitted on 1 April 2022 or later to be open on publication under a CC BY licence (CC BY-ND only by exception), with no embargo on a deposited accepted manuscript (UKRI) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a job using connected apps What it tested: ARC Open Access Policy 2026.1 applies only to schemes that opened for applications on 1 July 2026 or later, counted from when applications opened, not the award or project start; earlier schemes stay on Policy 2021.1, open within 12 months (ARC) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

Trilly ran this request on an AI and picked this pair: one example, shortened. The score is from Trilly's test.

You ask

I'm signed in to NIHMS. Fill in the submission for my accepted manuscript and stop before submit. 'Heat exposure and kidney function in farmworkers', Journal of Rural Health Research, accepted October 14, 2026, publication expected in December. Funded by NIH R01ES031234. Authors: Maria Lopez, Daniel Kim, Ana Ruiz. File: Lopez_JRHR_accepted.docx. The journal's policy says the accepted manuscript can be released 12 months after publication, so set a 12-month release delay. Today is October 21, 2026.

Without the skill

I can't operate NIHMS from this chat, so here's everything ready to enter yourself. Stop before the final Submit/Approve step.

Field-by-field entries

  • Manuscript title: Heat exposure and kidney function in farmworkers

  • Journal: Journal of Rural Health Research (if it isn't in the lookup list, choose "Journal not listed" and type it in)

  • Manuscript status: Accepted for publication

  • Acceptance date: October 14, 2026 (the date picker may want 10/14/2026)

  • Expected publication date: December 2026 (if a day is required, check your acceptance letter for the exact date)

  • Authors, in order:

    1. Maria Lopez (designate yourself as the submitting/corresponding author as applicable)
    2. Daniel Kim
    3. Ana Ruiz

You'll need each author's email if NIHMS asks for reviewers or contacts. Add those yourself.

  • Funding: NIH, Grant R01ES031234 (the awarding institute is NIEHS, based on the ES prefix; confirm it appears in the grant lookup)

  • Manuscript file: Upload Lopez_JRHR_accepted.docx as the main manuscript. Upload any figures, tables, or supplements as separate files if NIHMS prompts.

  • Release/embargo delay: 12 months after publication. Since publication is expected in December 2026, the public release would be about December 2027. If NIHMS asks for a date instead of a delay, wait until the actual publication date is confirmed and enter 12 months from that date.

Before you submit

  1. Confirm the journal's exact publication date, since the embargo depends on it.
  2. Review the PDF NIHMS generates from your file, since conversion can scramble formatting.
  3. Check that the title, authors, and grant number match the preview.
  4. Leave the final approval step untouched until you've checked everything.

PAPER TO PUBLICATION

First due: deposit to NIHMS now. NIH's policy needs the manuscript submitted on acceptance (October 14, 2026), so you're a week in.

One change: I haven't set the 12-month release delay. Your manuscript was accepted after July 1, 2025, so the NIH 2024 Public Access Policy applies. It must be public in PubMed Central on the official publication date, with no embargo. The card below says no delay. Before you sign the publishing agreement, ask the journal how it handles NIH-funded papers, because its 12-month rule doesn't meet NIH's. This is general information, not legal advice. Your research office can advise on the agreement.

I'm using the NIHMS browser hand-off. Open the NIHMS submission page and use a browser agent in careful mode (Manually approve or Always ask).

Card for the agent

Goal: Deposit the accepted manuscript of "Heat exposure and kidney function in farmworkers" in NIHMS with release on the official publication date (no delay), and stop before the final button.

Site: NIHMS (NIH Manuscript Submission system), the new submission for this paper, after the person signs in, and go nowhere else.

  • Calendar (for example Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar): Add the deposit, embargo end and report dates as reminders in your own calendar. Creates: One reminder event per deposit, embargo end or report date, each only after a yes. Never invites anyone. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each reminder as Title, Date and Time lines to add by hand, or a calendar file (.ics) if the app can make files.
Where your information goes
  • Your acceptance email, the paper's title and dates, co-authors' names and your grant numbers: Stays in the chat; a tracker row goes to your own Google Sheets only after you say yes. Only the email you pick and the grants on this paper are read. The paper's content and reviewers' reports aren't needed. What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Paste your acceptance email and your grant list. It works out which funders' open access rules apply to this paper, and which version of each policy, from the date each funder counts from. Then it tells you which version of the paper goes where, under which licence, and by when.

It reads the journal's AI and sharing policies you paste, drafts your AI-use statement, the funding acknowledgement with every grant number and the rights retention statement, and flags a publishing agreement that would break a funder's rule before you sign it. When you ask, your browser helper fills in the repository deposit and stops before Deposit or Submit: you press it.

A publications tracker keeps each paper's deposit date, embargo end, licence and status for each funder, with reminders and a list ready for annual reports. It never writes your paper, signs or pays, and never lists AI as an author. It asks first what your institution's AI policy lets you put in; with rules and templates only, no paper details or authors' names go in. General information, not legal advice.

If your email, Google Sheets or calendar is connected, it reads only what you pick and adds a row or a reminder only after you say yes.

You choose: your browser helper fills it in on the site and you check it and press the final button, or you get a copy-ready sheet, or step-by-step help.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your email, your spreadsheets or your calendar to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Does it for you. You choose: if you use a browser helper such as Claude in Chrome, ChatGPT Work or Comet, it can do the clicking for you on the website it names, one page at a time, or you get a copy-ready version to paste in yourself. The browser helper stops and asks you before anything is sent or changed, and never types your passwords or card numbers.

  • Remembers you. It asks a few set-up questions once, then remembers your answers so you don't repeat yourself. You can change them any time.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.

How each part works

Works with your apps.

  • Calendar (for example Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar): add the deposit, embargo end and report dates as reminders in your own calendar. It asks you before it creates or changes anything.

Try asking

Once it's added, ask your AI something like this. Not sure it loaded? Is my skill working?

  • My paper was accepted today. Which version goes where, under which licence, and what do I say about the AI I used?

To check it's working, the answer should start with "PAPER TO PUBLICATION".

  • open access policy no embargo accepted manuscript

  • rights retention statement wording
