9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 21 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 21 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.0 on 21 October 2026. Version 1.0.3 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a job using connected apps 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a moment that needed a safety step What it tested: Documentary evidence such as a receipt is needed for lodging at any amount, while other travel expenses under $75 don't need it (IRS Publication 463) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: For an input tax credit, a purchase of $100 to $499.99 needs the supplier's GST/HST registration number, and $500 or more also needs the buyer's name, a description and the terms of payment (Canada Revenue Agency) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

Today is Wednesday, October 21, 2026. Closing September for Taco Comet LLC, a food truck in Austin. Card lines with no receipt: Sept 12 Riverside Motel, San Antonio, $68.00 and Sept 13 parking $45.00, both for a festival; Sept 14 Shell $64.20, fuel for the drive back. Dana, the owner, says skip the small receipts. She's short on cash and asks if she should put October's sales tax on a credit card. Write the list for Dana and sign it 'Chris, your bookkeeper' for this one. Paste it here, I can't open files.

Subject: September close: items I need from you, Dana

Hi Dana,

I'm closing September for Taco Comet LLC. Three card charges have no receipts. I know you'd like to skip the small ones, so here's where I land.

Card charges with no receipt

Date Vendor Amount What it was for
September 12, 2026 Riverside Motel, San Antonio $68.00 Festival lodging
September 13, 2026 Parking $45.00 Festival parking
September 14, 2026 Shell $64.20 Fuel for the drive back

Total: $177.20

What I need

  1. For each charge, a quick reply confirming it was a business expense for the festival. A text or email is fine.
  2. If you can, ask the motel for a copy of the folio (they can usually email it). Photos of the parking stub and the fuel receipt also work, if you still have them.

Why I'm not skipping them They're small, but they're business travel and the IRS expects documentation. If I book them without support, they could be disallowed in an audit. If you truly can't get anything, I'll record them using your written confirmation of the date, place, amount, and business purpose, and note that the receipts are missing. That's a weaker position, so please try for the motel folio at least.

Your question: putting October's sales tax on a credit card I'd advise against it unless you have no other option.

  • Card interest will likely cost more than any penalty-free cash flow benefit.
  • Paying the Texas Comptroller by card usually adds a processing fee from the payment vendor, and I'd want to confirm the current fee before you do it.
  • Sales tax is money you've collected for the state, so it's best to set it aside as you go.

If cash is tight, the better move is to call me before the due date and we can look at timing and options. Don't pay late, since penalties and interest add up quickly.

Please send the confirmations by the end of this week so I can finish the close.

Chris, your bookkeeper

MONTH-END CLOSE

Taco Comet LLC, September: 0 critical lines open (all three are under $250). The close date, working day 10, was October 14 and has passed. What new close date do you want?

Subject: Taco Comet books for September: 1 quick question

Hi Dana,

We're closing September. To finish, we need:

Documents we need

  • Sept 12, Riverside Motel, San Antonio, $68.00. Lodging needs a receipt at any amount.

A receipt or slip will do

  • Sept 13, parking, $45.00, and Sept 14, Shell, $64.20. Both are under $75 and not lodging, so you're right, no receipts needed. I'll record them as festival trip costs.

You can reply here or send a photo of the motel receipt. If we don't hear back by the close date, that line stays unclaimed until we do.

Chris, your bookkeeper Ledgerline Books

# Date and payee Amount What we need Answer and received
1 Sept 12, Riverside Motel $68.00 Motel receipt

Reminders (Chris sends both)

Date Who What
Monday, October 26, 2026 Chris Day 3 nudge: the motel receipt is still open. The 3rd day is Saturday, so it moves to Monday.
Wednesday, October 28, 2026 Chris Day 7: give the new close date; the line stays in suspense, unclaimed, until answered.

Dana's question about putting October's sales tax on a credit card: this is general information, not tax or financial advice. I can't say whether she should, so please ask her accountant or tax adviser. If cash is tight, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling offers free money help at 877-360-6322.

Close checklist: the rest is open until the reconciliation, suspense, accruals and sales tax accounts are reviewed. I haven't posted or coded anything. You lock the period yourself after sign-off.

Next: send the list today, October 21, and tell me the new close date.

Apps you've connected

Only if you've connected them to your AI app. It works without them too.

  • Accounting (for example Xero or QuickBooks): Read the client's open lines, spending without attachments, suspense, Profit and Loss, budget and balance sheet for the period being closed. Reads: Unreconciled and uncoded bank lines for the client and period named; Bills and spending without attachments; Profit and Loss with budget and last month, and the balance sheet Doesn't create or change anything. Without it: You export or paste the lines and the Profit and Loss, and everything comes copy-ready in the chat.
  • Spreadsheets (for example Google Sheets or Excel): Read last month's query sheet, and set up this period's query sheet for the client to answer in. Reads: Last month's query sheet you name Creates: Google Sheets only: a new query sheet for this client and period, where the app can edit sheets, only after a yes. Existing sheets are never changed. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: The query sheet comes as a Markdown table to paste into your own sheet.
  • Calendar (for example Google Calendar): Add the day 3 and day 7 reminders and the close date to your own calendar. Creates: One reminder each for day 3, day 7 and the close date, in your own calendar, only after a yes. No invitees. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each reminder comes as Title, Date and Time lines to add by hand, or a calendar file (.ics) if the app can make files.
Where your information goes
  • The client's bank lines, bills, payees and amounts: Stays in the chat; the question list reaches the client only when you send it, and the query sheet only when you share it. Only the client and period named are read. Bank account and card numbers are never asked for or repeated.

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Give it a client's open bank lines, spending with no receipt, suspense items and the month's Profit and Loss with budget, or let it read them from your accounting software. It sorts every line by the receipt rule where the client is, so you ask only for the documents the rules need, never every receipt. You get one plain question list for the client, a query sheet, reminders for day 3 and day 7, and the close checklist.

It closes the period only when every critical line is answered, then writes short variance notes that explain what changed against budget and last month, from the ledger, never guessed. Its Expense Categoriser mode sorts a list of expenses into the client's accounts.

If Xero or QuickBooks is connected it reads them and never changes anything; with Google Sheets or Google Calendar it can set up the query sheet and reminders, and it asks first. It gives general information, not tax or financial advice, and never posts, pays or moves money.

You choose: it reads your connected apps and, where your AI app's connection can make changes, changes things only in Google Sheets, Excel and Google Calendar, after your yes each time, or you paste things in and get copy-ready text, or step-by-step help.

Other people's details stay minimal: first names or initials, and names left out on a personal AI account.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your accounting software, your spreadsheets or your calendar to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Remembers you. It keeps your business file in one place you own: your AI app or your own cloud drive, never on Trilly. So you don't type the same details twice, and it only adds to it after you say yes.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.

How each part works
