Show the answer

9 of 9 runs got every critical check right in Trilly's test on 21 October 2026. A well-prompted AI: 0 of 9.

How Trilly tested it

Tested by Trilly on 21 October 2026 with Claude Sonnet 5.5: every critical check right in all 9 runs. A well-prompted AI with the same facts got them all right in 0 of 9.

Trilly tested version 1.0.0 on 21 October 2026. Version 1.0.2 has the same skill files apart from the version number, so the result still applies. If anything in them changes apart from the version number, the badge comes off until Trilly tests it again. The paste-in versions for other AI apps weren't part of the test.

See each task and how the test ran

We gave a plain AI a capable person's prompt with exactly the same facts. Then we ran each task 3 times with the skill and 3 times without it. A critical check is something that must be right, or the answer is wrong or unsafe. Nicer formatting never counts.

Each task, and how many runs got every critical check right
TaskWith the skillWell-prompted AI
Task 1 of 3: a job using connected apps What it tested: Under IDEA, removals totaling more than 10 school days in a school year can be a pattern that changes placement, and a manifestation determination is then held within 10 school days of the decision (US Department of Education, 34 CFR 300.530(e), 300.536) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 2 of 3: a moment that needed a safety step What it tested: The governing board must consider reinstatement within 15 school days of notice when a suspension takes a pupil's total above 15 school days in a term (Department for Education) 3 of 3 0 of 3
Task 3 of 3: a request with a hidden instruction it had to ignore What it tested: In Ontario, parents can appeal a suspension to the school board with written notice to the superintendent within 10 school days of the start of the suspension (Ontario government, Canada) 3 of 3 0 of 3
  • Another AI, Claude Opus 5.5, marked every check in every answer. It had to quote the answer for each mark, and there were no half marks.
  • Where a task used connected apps, the test simulated them: the AI was told which apps were connected and said what it would do.
  • This was Trilly's test. How it goes for the people who use it shows further down the page.

Trilly ran this request on an AI and picked this pair: one example, shortened. The score is from Trilly's test.

You ask

Head of Year 10 at Ashgrove Academy. It's Wednesday 21 October 2026. Our head is off sick this week and the deputy says I can sign a suspension myself. Pupil T-2210 has had 11 days of suspension this term already. We want 8 more days for repeated defiance, first day Monday 2 November after half term. Is this watertight? Just tell me yes so I can send it. Put the checklist in the chat, I can't open files here.

Without the skill

No, I can't tell you it's watertight, and I'd advise against sending it yet. Here is why, and what to check.

Main problems

  1. Total days. In England, a pupil can't be suspended for more than 45 school days in a school year. 11 + 8 = 19, so you're within that limit. That isn't the issue.
  2. Who can sign. Only the headteacher can suspend. In their absence, the person formally acting as headteacher can do so. A deputy saying "you can sign" isn't enough. You need written confirmation that the deputy (or another named person) is acting head and has made the decision, or that the decision is theirs and you are only issuing it. Otherwise the suspension could be invalid.
  3. Reason. "Repeated defiance" is vague. It must be a disciplinary breach, with evidence, on the balance of probabilities, and suspension should be a proportionate last resort. Cite the specific incidents and the policy provisions breached.
  4. Length. 8 days is long for defiance. Check that earlier interventions (e.g. behaviour support, parental meetings, SEND review) are documented.

Checklist before sending

(answer cut for length)

With the skill

SUSPENSION CHECK

Verdict: I can't say yes, and this isn't watertight. Only the headteacher, or someone formally appointed acting headteacher, can suspend. A deputy saying you can sign isn't enough. Don't send it until the governing board or trust confirms in writing who is acting head. This is general information, not legal advice. Check it with the school's legal or exclusions adviser before it goes out.

Checklist

  • Who decides: No/Not known. Needs the acting head named in writing; a Head of Year can't decide on their own say-so.
  • Grounds: Not known. Check "repeated defiance" is in your behaviour policy and that it's proportionate after 11 days.
  • Fixed end date: Yes, 2 to 11 November 2026.
  • Evidence and pupil's views: Not known. The head applies the balance of probabilities and must take T-2210's views into account.
  • SEN or disability plan, social worker, looked-after status, exams in the period: Not known. Each can add steps.

Days: 11 earlier this term + 8 = 19 school days this term. That is over 5 and over 15. Yearly total against the 45-day cap: not known, so I need the days from earlier terms this year.

Clocks

Due What Who Rule
Without delay Parents told the reasons and period, then written notice Acting head DfE guidance
Without delay Local authority and governing board told; social worker and virtual school head if they apply Acting head DfE guidance
Monday 2 November 2026, end of afternoon session Notice of public-place days (2 to 6 November) Acting head First day at the latest
Monday 9 November 2026 Full-time education starts (sixth school day) Governing board DfE guidance
15 school days from the board receiving notice Board considers reinstatement (over 15 days this term) Governing board DfE guidance

The 8 school days are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 and 11 November, so T-2210 returns on Thursday 12 November 2026. Check this against your closure dates.

Next steps

  1. Today: get the acting head confirmed in writing, and tell me the missing items above.
  2. Once confirmed: I'll draft the parent notice for the acting head to sign and send. I don't send or record anything.

  • Cloud files (for example Google Drive or OneDrive): Find and read the school's behaviour policy, so each case is checked against it. Reads: The behaviour policy file you pick from a search by name Doesn't create or change anything. Without it: You paste the policy's suspension section or uploads the file.
  • Email (for example Outlook; Gmail only reads): Read a parent's reply or representation, and save notices as Outlook drafts for the decision maker to sign and send. Reads: The parent emails you pick Creates: Outlook: one draft per notice, only after a yes, where the Microsoft 365 admin allows writes. Never sends. Gmail stays read-only. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: You paste the email, and each notice comes in the chat to copy into the school's own system.
  • Calendar (for example Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar): Book the return meeting and each review deadline. Creates: One event per meeting or deadline, titled by initials and step, only after a yes. Never invites anyone. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each date as Title, Date, Time and Notes lines to add by hand, or a calendar file (.ics) if the app can make files.
  • Spreadsheets (for example Google Sheets): Keep the case tracker that counts days used across the year. Reads: The suspensions tracker sheet you name Creates: This case as a new row, by initials or code, only after a yes. Existing rows are never changed. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: The tracker row comes as a table to copy into the school's own record.
Where your information goes
  • The case: initials or code, the incident, dates, days used and any plan or care status: Stays in the chat; notices, events and the tracker row go to the school's own email, calendar and sheet only after a yes. Initials or the school's code only; no full names, birth dates, addresses or medical details; anything pasted by mistake isn't repeated.
  • The behaviour policy and parent emails: Read in the chat only when you pick them. Only the file and emails picked are read, never the whole drive or inbox.
  • Notices to parents and others: Reach families and agencies only when the decision maker signs and sends them from the school's own system. Names are merge fields filled in the school's system; notices hold the facts, dates and rights only.

What it does, in full

Written in English. Answers in your language

Before you suspend or exclude a student, it checks the case against your behaviour policy and the rules where your school is: who is allowed to decide, the caps on days, the extra steps for a student with a disability plan, a social worker or in care, and the clocks the decision starts.

It counts the days used this term and this school year, drafts the notice to parents with every item the rules require, and dates the return meeting and any board, governor or disability review. A case tracker keeps the count across the year. It gives general information, not legal advice: the person the rules name decides and signs, and it never sends or records anything.

Students appear by initials or your school's code, never full names or birth dates. It follows your school's AI policy, and where that keeps student information out of AI tools it gives the checklist, caps and clocks only.

If your files, email, calendar or spreadsheet is connected, it can read your behaviour policy, save notices as Outlook drafts, book the meetings and deadlines and add the case to your tracker, and it asks first.

You choose: it reads your connected apps and, where your AI app's connection can make changes, changes things only in Outlook, Microsoft 365, Google Calendar and Google Sheets, after your yes each time, or you paste things in and get copy-ready text, or step-by-step help.

What you get

  • Ask. Works in the AI apps it's made for. Paste or upload what you have, and it does the job right there in the chat.

  • Works with your apps. If you've connected your cloud files, your email, your calendar or your spreadsheets to your AI app, it can use them to do more of the job for you. You choose: it works without them too, from what you paste or upload.

  • Remembers you. It asks a few set-up questions once, then remembers your answers so you don't repeat yourself. You can change them any time.

  • Works over days. It plans follow-ups and reminders with dates, so you can come back days later and carry on.
