Doing more in your AI app: your apps and a browser helper

Claude

Doing more in Claude

Works with your apps: Yes

Claude connects to hundreds of apps on every plan, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Notion, Canva, Shopify, HubSpot and Xero.

Xero is read-only here.

In Gmail, Claude can write, send, reply to and forward emails, and by default it asks for your approval before it sends, replies or forwards. Outlook needs a work or school Microsoft 365 account.

To switch it on: In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors. Pick the app, press Connect, and sign in on that app's own page. In a chat, press + and Connectors to switch one on or off. Keep anything that changes things on Needs approval.

Does it for you: Yes, on paid plans

Claude in Chrome: Any paid Claude plan (Pro is from US$20 a month), in Google Chrome on a computer. No country limit is stated.

To switch it on: Add Claude in Chrome from the Chrome Web Store and sign in with your Claude account. Choose Manually approve, so it asks before each step, and never Skip all approvals. You may need to attach files yourself.

You choose: let Claude in Chrome fill in the website for you (you check it and press the final button), or get a copy-ready version to paste yourself.

On a free plan, it still works in the chat, and you fill in the website yourself.

To switch it on: Start ChatGPT Work and use its browser, or add the ChatGPT extension to Chrome. Set the site to Always ask. To attach files from your computer, use the extension with Allow access to file URLs turned on: the built-in browser can't attach files.

Google Drive: find and sum up.

Gemini can find and sum up Gmail, not write or send, so it writes the email for you to send.

To switch it on: In Gemini, open Settings, then Connected apps, and switch on the apps you use.

Does it for you: US only

Gemini in Chrome (auto browse): In the US only, with Google AI Pro (US$19.99 a month) or Ultra, in Chrome on a computer, in English.

  • Makes or changes

    • Google Drive or OneDriveRead the signed offer you names, and keep a starter folder in Google Drive. It asks you before it changes anything.

    • OutlookFind the signed offer or the starter's replies you pick, and save the welcome email and approval requests as Outlook drafts where the Microsoft 365 admin allows it. It asks first here too.

    • Google Calendar or Outlook CalendarPut check-ins, reviews, paperwork deadlines, the trial or probation end and 12-month dates on your own calendar. It asks first here too.

Apps you've connected

  • Accounting (for example BambooHR, Gusto or Deel): Read the one new starter's record so the plan uses the real start date, role, employment type, manager and pay type. Reads: This one starter's start date, job title, employment type, manager and pay type Doesn't create or change anything. Without it: You type or paste the starter's details, or adds them in the HR app through the hand-off card.
  • Cloud files (for example Google Drive or OneDrive): Read the signed offer you names, and keep a starter folder in Google Drive. Reads: The signed offer or agreement you name Creates: Google Drive only: a new starter folder holding the plan, the tracker and the forms checklist, only after a yes. Never shares it or changes an existing file. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: The plan and tracker come in the chat, or as files to download if the app can make files.
  • Email (for example Outlook; Gmail only reads): Find the signed offer or the starter's replies you pick, and save the welcome email and approval requests as Outlook drafts where the Microsoft 365 admin allows it. Reads: The signed offer or the starter's replies you pick after a search by name Creates: Outlook only: the welcome email and approval requests saved as drafts in your own mailbox, only after a yes. Never sends. Gmail stays read-only. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each email comes in the chat as Subject and body to copy and send.
  • Calendar (for example Google Calendar or Outlook Calendar): Put check-ins, reviews, paperwork deadlines, the trial or probation end and 12-month dates on your own calendar. Creates: One reminder per check-in, review or deadline, titled with the starter's first name and the step, only after a yes. Never invites anyone. Asks you before it creates or changes anything. Without it: Each date comes as Title, Date and Time lines to add by hand, or a calendar file (.ics) if the app can make files.
Where your information goes
  • The starter's name, age if under 18, role, start date, hours, pay type and check-in notes: Stays in the chat; reaches your own drive, drafts or calendar only after a yes First name in the tracker and reminders; ID, tax and bank numbers never asked for or written; check-in notes kept to work matters.
  • The hand-off card: name, role, employment type, start date, pay rate, hours, manager, trial or probation end date: The business's own HR system's add-employee page, through your own browser agent Only the card's fields; the agent stops before Save, Send invite or Submit, and never types bank, tax or ID numbers, passwords or codes.
  • Check-in, review and deadline dates: Your own calendar, after a yes Titles carry the starter's first name and the step only.
