These rules apply to every version of every skill. We check them automatically, and Trilly reviews the riskier ones. Breaking them can mean a skill is removed and listed on our removals page.

A skill must not

  1. Hide anything. No invisible or disguised text, odd Unicode tricks, or instructions buried in files the person wouldn't read.
  2. Work against the person using it. No telling the AI to ignore the person, override its safety rules, or act without asking when something matters.
  3. Send information away without saying so. Every website a skill contacts must be listed on its page with a reason. No sending what people share to anywhere else.
  4. Ask for secrets. No asking for passwords, login codes, card numbers, bank details or government ID numbers.
  5. Carry secrets. No API keys, passwords or private data left inside the skill.
  6. Contain harmful files. Only allowed file types and sizes. No hidden programs, and scripts must do only what the listing says.
  7. Act in someone's accounts without clear permission. Skills that send emails, make purchases or change records must ask before each action and get our full review.
  8. Mislead. The listing, including its step-by-step map, must match what the skill does. No fake reviews, made-up statistics, invented credentials or guaranteed outcomes.
  9. Copy other people's work without the right to use it (see our copyright and takedown page).
  10. Break the law or help others to, including scams, harassment, hate, and anything sexual involving minors.
  11. Tamper with Trilly's reporting to make its numbers look better.
  12. Do a student's assessed work for them, or help hide AI use from a teacher or marker (see study and assessed work below).

Extra rules for high-risk areas

Skills about money, betting, health or legal matters must:

  • say plainly that they give general information, not personal advice;
  • never promise wins, returns or cures;
  • for betting: be for people 18 and over only, point people to the gambling help line of the country the skill's edition is for (in Australia, Gambling Help Online on 1800 858 858; the others are on our help lines page), or, for a skill for everywhere, say that free help is available wherever they live, and never encourage chasing losses (see our advice disclaimers);
  • for betting skills that help people stop or cut down gambling: never encourage betting (no tips, odds, bet sizes or ways to win back losses), and name a gambling help line. Say so in the skill's trilly.json ("purpose": "gambling-harm-reduction"), and its page shows a support line instead of "Only bet what you can afford to lose";
  • get our full review before every version goes live.

Skills never place bets, move money in betting accounts, or hold betting account details.

Study and assessed work

A skill must not write, rewrite, paraphrase or complete work a student will hand in as their own, sit a test or quiz for them, help hide AI use from a teacher or marker, or assess or score grant applications for a funder, as an assessor or panel member.

Skills that help people learn are welcome: ones that explain, quiz, give feedback on someone's own writing without rewriting it, or help them plan their own work.

We check every new version for this, and Trilly reviews any version our checks flag. A version that breaks this rule isn't listed. If you think a live skill breaks it, use "Report" on its page and choose "It does students' assessed work for them". If it does, we take it down and add it to our removals page.

Reporting a skill

If you think a skill breaks these rules, use "Report" on its page or email abuse@trilly.io. If a skill copies your work, email legal@trilly.io.
